Flood defences for Castletown

The Department of Infrastructure has applied for permission to upgrade flood defences in Castletown.

In its application, the department says it wants to protect Hope Street in the ancient capital and prevent the mill stream which runs parallel to the street bursting its banks.

The department says it would more than double the height of a retaining wall as well as install a new headwall and penstock.

The news comes after a long campaign for better flood defences in the town following incidents in recent years.

You can find out more about the plans on the government’s website gov.im.
