Fog means disruption to sailings

Tuesday

The Ben my Chree's overnight sailings to and from Heysham have been cancelled after fog made it im[possible for her to dock in Lancashire today.

She was diverted to Liverpool this evening (2 Nov), after a long and frustrating wait at fog-bound Heysham.

The vessel, due in Heysham at 1215 today, waited for almost five hours outside the Lancashire port for fog to clear, but efforts to dock were abandoned shortly after 5pm.

With weather conditions slightly better on Merseyside, she headed for 12 Quays.

The Steam Packet says the move avoided having to bring the vessel, carrying families heading for half-term breaks, back to Douglas.

The Ben will return empty to Douglas tonight (Monday), but this evening's sailing to Heysham and the 2am return on Tuesday are both cancelled.

Drivers and foot passengers waiting in Heysham are heading to Liverpool to board the Manannan, due to sail to the Island tonight.

A decision is still awaited on tomorrow morning's scheduled sailing from Douglas; details will be posted on the Steam Packet website.

Packet chief executive Mark Woodward says docking in Heysham proved impossible in today's conditions:
