Former car showroom to become charity's furniture hub?

Crossroads submits application for Douglas unit

A former car showroom in Douglas could be transformed into a furniture shop.
Crossroads has applied for planning permission to turn Millmount Garage into a retail unit.

If successful the charity would move its Windsor Road furniture outlet to the new location.

It says it's outgrown that premises and is unable to develop this part of the operation as it has a 'serious lack' of storage and floor space, parking and no loading bay.

In a letter to planning the charity's chief executive says logistics are ‘very difficult’ and a delivery lane is blocked when dropping or collecting furniture.

In addition the charity is having to hire vehicles twice a week, as there is nowhere to park them overnight, something described as a 'costly exercise'.

If the change of use application is successful Crossroads would purchase its own vehicle which would be more cost effective and allow funds saved to be 'better spent and put back into charity'.
