Former Fire Chief remembered

Event celebrates life of John Hinnigan

Isle of Man Fire and Rescue Service will celebrate the life of a former Chief Fire Officer today.

John Hinnegan held the senior post in the service for almost 20 years and at the time of his retirement in 1993 was the longest serving fire officer in the British Isles after a distinguished career spanning some 40 years.

He passed away in January this year at the age of 83.

Mr Hinnigan was instrumental in introducing legislation which helped shape the development of the Isle of Man Fire and Rescue Service and was also known for his support of Rotary Club fundraising events.

This evening's event at Douglas Fire Station will see invited guests celebrate Mr Hinnigan's life, alongside his wife Joan, his children and their families.
