Former politicians were 'shortsighted'

Pier renovation will be for whole Island

Island politicians of yesteryear were 'shortsighted' about the Queen’s Pier in Ramsey.

So says a retired engineer heading up an ambitious project to restore the landmark which closed to public use in 1990.

Workers from the Queen's Pier Restoration Trust were recently allowed access after preliminary planning permission was granted for them to rejuvenate the first section of the structure.

Tom Durrant says spearheading the initiative privately was avoidable but insists the pier will ultimately be an attraction for the whole Island.
