Forty-seven thousand Island residents eligible to vote

What's being called the most accurate and reliable register of voters in the Island for ten years has been drawn-up.

It's due to a good response from Island householders, who were asked to fill in electoral registration forms earlier this year.

There are now 47,000 eligible voters on the register, up from 43,000 in 2006, when it was last updated.

The number of out-of-date entries as individuals changed address of left the Island, had distorted the list.

Registration officer Della Fletcher says anyone who missed the opportunity to confirm their details can do so when the voters list is next updated in July .

Two House of Keys by elections will be held this summer and the next general election is due in autumn 2016.
