Manx Care discusses the capacity challenges it faces during road racing
Four hospital admissions in the space of a few hours meant it wasn't safe for qualifying to continue at the Southern 100 last night.
Manx Care's Executive Director of Health Services Oliver Radford confirmed the decision to suspend action on the Billown Course was taken after two non-racing admissions at the emergency department, followed by two injuries in the newcomers sighting laps.
At around 4pm each day during the event, the healthcare body will hold a 'Safe to Start' huddle - where it assesses whether there is adequate capacity for racing to go ahead.
Yesterday's huddle took place prior to the non-racing emergencies being admitted.
ED at Noble's has 16 beds, including five for the most urgently in need patients - all four admissions required those beds.
