Four-midable Mandy wins Cleveland Medal

Contralto Mandy Griffin has won the Cleveland Medal for a fourth time.

She won the highest accolade at the Manx Music Festival as the 2014 Guild came to a close at the Villa Marina last night (Saturday).

And after the adjudicator Maria Jagusz paid tribute to all the finalists – Ernie Thorn. Graham Crowe, John Qualtrough, Olivia Black and Jane Corkill – Mandy, accompanied by Marilyn Cannell, was presented with the most coveted medal of the festival.

Earlier, Christian Cooper won the Sheffield Plate for the best young voice.

He saw off eight other finalists to win the award for the second time in three years.

Accompanied by Regina Kaniewski and a member of Broadway Theatre Company, Christian is also taking part in the first round of  Young Singer of Mann competition  at the Erin Arts Centre next weekend and will perform as a special guest with the Tenors Unlimited at the Villa Marina next Friday.
