The loss of houses to the sea in Norfolk in recent days has highlighted the problem.

Charles Guard is secretary of the Manx Geological Society and has been monitoring the effects and mechanisms of coastal erosion on the Island for over 25 years, making several documentaries on the subject.
He says the threat posed to settlements like Kirk Michael doesn't actually come from the sea:
