Further drop in gas prices

Manx Gas announces third price reduction this year

Manx Gas is to reduce its prices again - for the third time this year.

From 6 September, customers will see a 3.6% drop in their tariff.

The company says it comes as a result of lower natural gas prices, increased efficiency and a recent output surplus.

Customers have already seen two previous price cuts in 2016 - once in January and again in April - both to the tune of 3.5%.

Bosses say it equates to a total saving of £61 per year for the average customer.

But it does come on the back of a controversial increase in standing charges last year, which left many customers worse off.

An investigation by the BBC in February found that Island gas consumers were paying up to twice as much as their UK counterparts.

Under a regulatory agreement with the Office of Fair Trading, Manx Gas is required to cap its profits at 10% per year.
