Further restrictions to queen scallop fishing from Monday

Just one area of sea to remain open

Just one area around the Isle of Man will remain open to queen scallop fishing from Monday.

The Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture has announced only East Douglas will continue, with all other sectors of the territorial sea closed to allow stocks to recover.

The catch rate has been relatively high in East Douglas according to DEFA, so fishing will be allowed to continue until the rate drops from its current level.

Minister Geoffrey Boot says the decision to shut all other sections was not taken lightly, but has been made with future sustainability in mind.
