Garff Commissioners increases its rate by 16p

Latest in a string of local authority rate increases

Garff Commissioners has raised its rates for the next financial year by 10.5 per cent.

It currently sits at 152 pence in the pound but this will increase to 168 pence in the pound from April.

The local authority says the budget will ensure financial 'integrity' and allow the current level of services provided by the authority to be maintained and developed for the benefit of ratepayers.

Inflationary pressures, Energy from Waste fees which are set by central government and charges for the civic amenity sites are set externally by separate committees are cited as reasons for the rise.

An average property in Garff with a rateable value of 164p the rise equates to around £3.68 a month.

In addition, the Fixed Refuse Charge will rise to £189 from the current £171.
