Garff Commissioners to reserve comment on Laxey sewage plant plans

Authority will vote on issue in future

Garff Commissioners won't formally comment on proposals for a sewage treatment plant in Laxey until full plans come forward.

Chairman Jamie Smith says any application by Manx Utilities for a site on the northern end of the village harbour will be 'judged on its merits'.

A new facility has been designed to end the pumping of raw sewage into Laxey Bay, and treat waste to the 'highest modern standards'. 

The commissioners will seek to extend the time in which residents can comment on the proposals, and will also call a public meeting to discuss them.

The local authority recently published a leaflet by residents' group 'Best for Laxey', which outlined opposition to the proposed sewage plant.

A Manx Utilities rebuttal was also placed on the commissioners' social media channels to ensure the public are 'as informed as possible'.

Mr Smith says when the time comes, the commissioners will take a stance on the issue:
