Andrew Smith not seeking re-election after '56 years of continuous work'

A Garff MHK says after 56 years of 'continuous work' he should really 'reconsider what's left' of his life.

Andrew Smith has announced he isn't planning to contest his seat in September's General Election.

The 72-year-old was first elected to the constituency in 2021.

Mr Smith says recent health news has made him think about how much he'd be able to give to the role if re-elected:

There are currently seven candidates standing in Garff - Anthony Allen, Sean Bostrom, Daphne Caine, Aishlinn Creer, Vicki Hewison, Peter Kermeen and Martyn Perkins.

The General Election will take place on Thursday, 24 September.
