Deputy Chief Constable Gary Roberts has been named as the successor to Mike Langdon as the Island's chief constable.
The announcement was made at a briefing at the Department of Home Affairs' headquarters on Woodbourne Road this afternoon.
Mr Roberts, who's 49, was the only local candidate among nine applicants, and takes up the post on January 1 next year.
He started as a constable in Douglas 28 years ago and rose through the ranks to reach the top position.
Mr Roberts has paid tribute to his predecessor for transforming the Manx force in recent years:
Port St Mary father continues to fight for change in drug laws
Driving ban for man caught drug driving at the Sea Terminal
'Really important' children are inspired to use their imaginations, says Manx author
