Gell and Wilkinson inquests opened and adjourned

An inquest into the death of a Water Authority worker has been opened and adjourned this afternoon.

Fifty-two-year-old Lawrence 'Lude' Gell died nine days ago after becoming trapped under a wall.

He was working near the old Creg Malin Hotel in Peel at the time.

Mr Gell, a labourer from Circular Road in the town, sustained fatal chest and abdomen injuries.

Meanwhile, a man from Douglas found dead in the River Douglas had drowned, an inquest has heard.

The body of 52-year-old Kevin Wilkinson, who was originally from Durham, was discovered on Tuesday afternoon last week on the stretch of the river adjacent to Leigh Terrace.

Coroner of Inquests John Needham adjourned proceedings at both inquiries while the separate investigations continue.
