General Gaol committal for company over fatal accident

Firm had admitted lapse in workplace safety standards

A company has been committed to a Court of General Gaol after admitting a charge connected to a fatal accident.

UK specialist firm Tuke and Bell Ltd pleaded guilty to a lapse in workplace safety standards following the death of Gareth Sowden in May 2013.

The 55-year-old mechanical engineer was working on a sewage treatment project in Kirk Michael.

He suffered fatal injuries after he was trapped under a shipping container.

Jayne Hughes committed Tuke and Bell Ltd to sentencing at the Court of General Gaol Delivery at its next sitting, on July 24.
