Glen Wyllin campsite goes glamping

Tents, yurts and full-on log cabins offered

Campers at Glen Wyllin, on the outskirts of Kirk Michael, may soon be able to choose between tents, yurts or log cabins if plans by campsite operators go ahead.

Glen Wyllin campsite (2016) Ltd., which runs the site - owned by the Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture - want to erect 7 log cabins, 8 camping pods and 2 yurts.

They also have applied to install land drains in saturated grassland and provide a designated car parking area for campers with tents.

But there have been objections raised.

Whilst the Government Conservation Officer says the impact upon the area would be negligible, Michael Commissioners have objected to the plans.

They are concerned that the application was not clearly advertised, and has a lack of details regarding the cabins and camping pods.

Commissioners also question where Sophie's lodge - a specially equipped camping pod funded by a charity - is placed on the plan, which is based on a very old plan of the area and doesn't show local housing estates.

It's pointed out that road and Glen are not private property, but a National Glen and free for the use of all.

The Commissioners want to see more detail before any plans are approved.

The plans are available to view on-line on the government website.
