Tynwald supports plans
A charity says it's 'heartened' to have received political support for a statue in honour of a Manx women's rights icon.
The Friends of Sophia Goulden wants to pay tribute to the Lonan woman, best known as the mother of suffragette Emmeline Pankhurst, and a prominent anti-slavery protester in her own right.
Campaigners have raised around £6,000 of the £70,000 needed for the installation so far, and have 'many plans' for fundraising events in the future.
Tynwald members near-unanimously supported the plans on Tuesday, despite hesitation from ministers.
Marilyn Payne is from the charity.
