Government support for rising energy costs won't go to Tynwald until October

Gas prices will increase by 43.9% in September

Treasury says it's currently working on ‘targeted support’ to help those most affected by rising energy costs but the plans won’t go before Tynwald until October.

That’s despite Manx Gas customers being told today that their natural gas bills will increase by 43.9 per cent from 1 September.

No specific details of the support being considered by the government have been provided.

Minister Alex Allinson said: “We have been closely monitoring the inflationary pressures on the cost of living for individuals and businesses throughout the year with the expectation that further support would be required as we approached autumn and winter.

“Government has already provided support packages totalling more than £6.3 million during the first six months of 2022.

“Treasury is currently working on a range of options for more targeted support to help those most affected by the rise in energy costs and these will be announced at the October sitting of Tynwald.”

Manx Radio has invited Treasury to put forward a spokesperson for interview.
