Gov't announce full review of Strategic Plan

Hopes the move will enable it to meet goals set out in Island Plan and Economic Strategy

Government has announced a full review of its Strategic Plan, which sets out policies for development and use of land across the Island.

It plays a key part when Area Plans are formed and in outcomes of planning applications.

The Strategic Plan covers varies policies such as the location and distribution of future developments – including housing, climate change requirements, renewable energy generation, recreational space and employment land.

The first plan was approved by Tynwald in 2007, but aside from a partial review in 2016 the current document remains largely unchanged.

The government hopes by reviewing it in its entirety, will allow it to be aligned with wider policies further down the line.

The Cabinet Office Minister Kate Lord-Brennan has described the review as a ‘significant step forward’ for planning.

She says it'll "provide an opportunity for us to better reflect our core strategic objectives, and meet the goals and aspirations of Our Island Plan and the Economic Strategy."

A consultation period gets underway from this morning until the end of September which can be found HERE.
