Green light for start of Eco Week

Supporters of the Manx Woodland Trust are going green today in Douglas town centre (Sunday 17) to mark the start of their Eco Week.

It's the latest chapter in the group's Plant a Manx Tree in Twenty-One-three campaign, to increase tree cover across the Island.

Throughout the week shoppers can browse stalls and displays, view large wood sculptures and contribute photos and artwork of trees in the Manx countryside, the best to be included in the Woodland Trust's calendar next year.

Today green is theme for a town centre bucket collection while tomorrow (Mon 18) a tree planting's planned at the Children's Centre community farm outside Douglas.

The Trust's Richard Crowhurst says it's important to capture the interest of the young generation:

Eco week is at the Strand Shopping Centre until Friday.
