Guilty plea from man who put bouncer in 'choke hold'

41-year-old admits common assault outside bar

A Douglas man will be sentenced in December after putting a member of door staff in a ‘choke hold’.

Aaron Lee Kelly, of Greeba Road, assaulted the man outside 1886 Bar and Grill on Regent Street on 27 August.

The 41-year-old admitted the offence during an appearance at Douglas Courthouse.

The court heard Kelly told the worker: “You door staff think you can do what you want.”

In his basis of plea, which was read to the court, Kelly said he mistakenly believed the man was using excessive force on someone else and admitted he shouldn’t have grabbed him as he did.

A Social Enquiry Report has been requested before he’s sentenced on 13 December – he’s been bailed until that date.
