Harmer further defends open skies

Flexibility in event of market failure

The Infrastructure Minister says Ronaldsway has a 'good relationship' with airlines serving the Island, as he further defends government's open skies policy.

He was speaking after an MHK criticised the free market approach, amid claims some fares are almost three times the usual rate during peaks such as TT week.

But Ray Harmer insists the current system works, as it allows the Department to pursue new routes and account for changing passenger numbers.

He also claims it allows flexibility in the event of market failure, as with the case of Citywing.
