Health Minister: "There is still a lot of work to be done"

Hooper takes Manx Care's annual report to Tynwald

“There is still a lot of work to be done.”

That’s the message from the health and social care minister who says whilst things are getting better within Manx Care progress is slower than he would like.

Yesterday (22 November) Lawrie Hooper presented the health body’s annual report to Tynwald alongside a ‘letter of assessment’ from his department.

Some politicians criticised the amount of detail contained in the 2022-23 document which you can read HERE.

Rushen MHK, and Speaker of the House of Keys, Juan Watterson told Manx Radio he was concerned not just about this report but across reports coming from government as a whole:

Other politicians queried whether the information contained in the annual report was as detailed as it could be.

Douglas North MHK, and former Health and Social Care Minister, David Ashford raised concerns about the amount of money spent on the Restoration and Recovery Programme and whether it would change anything in the long-term:

In response to the concerns raised on the floor of Tynwald Minister Hooper told Manx Radio that whilst progress in some areas is slower than he would like ... it is being made:

Mr Hooper believes Manx Care’s first year of operation was about ‘discovery’ and the second – which is what their report focusses on – about ‘safety and stability’.

But not everyone is convinced the decision to split the operational delivery of health and care services from the Department of Health and Social Care is working.

Mr Watterson told Manx Radio it’s showed ‘no evidence of success’:
