Seriously injured or unwell people on the Isle of Man could be transferred directly to hospitals in the UK by helicopter.
Manx Care is starting a seven month trial with the Great North Air Ambulance to operate an emergency medical service which could bypass Noble's Hospital.
It's for patients who need immediate specialist care or who require specialist skills at the scene - 999 calls will be screened to identify those most likely to benefit.
