Advice from Isle of Man Samaritans for people experiencing Seasonal Affective Disorder

As the cold, dark winter days close in a growing number of people are affected by a condition known as SAD - or Seasonal Affective Disorder.

Sometimes known as winter depression, SAD comes and goes in a seasonal pattern.

Symptoms, including persistent low mood, feelings of despair, and lethargy can be severe and have a significant impact on the sufferer's day-to-day activities.

The exact cause of SAD isn't fully known, but Deanna Douglas, director of Isle of Man Samaritans offers advice for sufferers:
