Honour to lead team out says Kelly

Chief Minister speaks of his pride

Cyclist Jake Kelly says it was an honour to lead the Manx team out in the opening parade at the Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast of Australia.

The spectacular opening ceremony took place this morning in front of an audience of thousands - with millions more watching on television around the world

Jake's grandfather was a cyclist in the first ever Manx team at the 1958 Cardiff Games.

Speaking to Jo Pack, he said despite a high-profile absentee, the cycling team was still feeling very positive:-

Chief Minister Howard Quayle, who is in Australia on a self-funded trip with his family, has tweeted that as a Manxman it is always a great moment to see the Manx flag being paraded during the opening ceremony and he's very proud of the team and wishes them all the best for the days ahead.
