MHK says government should be planning replacement for RDCH

A Ramsey MHK says it’s ‘time to bite the bullet’ and build a new hospital in the north of the Island.

Lawrie Hooper says government should be planning a replacement for Ramsey District Cottage Hospital rather than spending money doing remedial work.

He says refurbishing the present building won’t prove a long-term solution describing the facility as ‘vital’.

John Moss has this report:

Manx Radio invited Manx Care and the Department of Health and Social Care to comment.

A spokesperson said: "The Department of Health and Social Care and Manx Care agree that hospital services should continue to be provided in the north of the Island.

"Options are currently being assessed following the recent publication of the Ramsey and District Cottage Hospital condition survey."

Mr Hooper has announced his intention to defend his seat in September’s General Election.

Ramsey Commissioner Juan McGuinness is also running for election in the constituency.
