New site in Ramsey recently received planning approval

The company behind plans for a new self-service dog wash facility in Ramsey say work will begin on the site in the next few weeks, with a view to opening in January.

Doggy Wash Limited recently received planning approval for its new machine, which will be placed on a hardstanding carpark on the northern end of Mooragh Promenade.

The machine itself will be situated inside a wooden structure with doors that are locked and unlocked between the agreed operating hours of 6am and 10pm in Summer and 7am and 9pm in Winter.

At a public meeting earlier this month, concerns were raised by members of the Planning Committee as to the operating hours and the proximity of the machine to the neighbouring property.

Committee Member Adele Betteridge questioned whether the occupiers would appreciate dog owners using the machine in the earliest and latest portions of the operating hours, especially if their pet was 'yappy' and reluctant to baths.

John Teare of DoggyWash (Isle of Man) said they would be open to feedback on the operating hours.

These types of self-service dog wash machines are said to be becoming increasing popular across the UK and British Isles.

Following planning approval, DoggyWash Isle of Man told Manx Radio: "We’re delighted to have received planning approval for our new DoggyWash self-service dog wash in Ramsey.

"Work will begin in the next few weeks, with a planned opening in January 2027.

"The facility will give dog owners a convenient place to wash and dry their dogs after a muddy walk or a trip to the beach, leaving the mess behind rather than taking it home.

"We already have applications in to extend the service to Douglas and Peel, and would love some public support to help persuade the local authorities that this is a much-needed service. Sites close to popular walking areas, with convenient parking, would make this a useful addition for both local dog owners and visitors to the Island."
