House of Keys welcomes new members

Two new MHKs take their seats today

The House of Keys sits slightly earlier than normal this morning – as its two new members are sworn in.

Bill Malarkey and Ralph Peake will take their seats in South and North Douglas respectively after winning last week’s by-elections.

MHKs will then deal with the order paper, which this morning contains seven questions for oral answer and another four for written reply.

Questions this morning will cover topics such as legal highs and the redevelopment of Douglas Promenade.

Onchan MHK Peter Karran will quiz ministers about future uses of the Glenside complex as well as the scrapping of discounts for Manx Gas customers who pay by direct debit.

His constituency colleague MHK David Quirk will ask about local authorities and Douglas prom – a subject which has also prompted a question from Santon MHK Graham Cregeen.

This morning will also see discussion of new laws governing war memorials, audits and cigarettes.

You can hear live coverage of House of Keys questions on Manx Radio’s AM1368 frequency, online at manxradio.com or via our mobile apps later this morning.
