How the Island plans to honour The Queen

Elizabeth II has passed away aged 96

People across the Isle of Man are paying respect to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

She died peacefully at Balmoral on Thursday afternoon at the age of 96.

Flags around the Island will be flown at half-mast as a mark of respect, including at Isle of Man Constabulary and Steam Packet Buildings.

Okell's Inns has confirmed it will be closing all its pubs on Friday 9 September for a 24-hour period.

In a statement, it's said:

"As a mark of respect, for the passing of Her Majesty The Queen, Lord of Mann, all of the pubs across our estate will be closing for 24 hours.

At a time of national grief, families and communities should have the chance to spend time together; this includes our entire workforce and we wish to give them this opportunity to do so.

Further announcements will be made for the day of the State Funeral across the pubs in the coming days.

At this time, our condolences and thoughts are with the Royal Family and the Nation.”

The chain of pubs says any function or event booked during the closure period will be honoured unless the customer chooses to cancel or postpone.

Some of the Island's churches will also be paying tribute to Her Majesty.

The bells of St George's in Douglas and Peel Cathedral will be rung muffled on Friday 9 September at midday, along with other churches throughout the UK.

The Cathedral has also paid tribute to our Lord of Mann:
