Volunteers helped grit road surfaces over weekend
The Department of Infrastructure received almost 400 calls for assistance at the weekend.
This was due to the state of the roads in the icy conditions.
The DoI says it responded with construction and maintenance teams, some of them volunteers, to help salt surfaces to keep the Island's traffic moving as best as possible.
Meanwhile, main roads are currently being gritted.
Work began at 2pm this afternoon which the department believes should prove most effective against the weather conditions.
The Island has more than 1,000 public salt bins located on roadsides and any which are empty should be reported.
Each vessel has a unique number on the lid which needs to be quoted.
