Strategy 'will protect' valued fields - minister
The government has given a limited pledge that sports fields in local communities will be safeguarded from development.
Concerns have been raised about the loss of recreation facilities in the east of the Island, after a new draft area plan earmarked more than 200 sites for potential housing and business development.
The issue was discussed at a public meeting in Douglas last night, and has been raised in the House of Keys today (28 March).
Minister for Policy and Reform Chris Thomas says the plan protects sites from the bulldozer in some circumstances - or ensures they are replaced:
