The annual rate of inflation has gone down again.
At the end of April, the figure was 1.9% as measured by the Retail Prices Index . . down from 2.6% in March.
Figures show food costs dropped by 0.5% over the month . . but are up 5.7% over the last 12 months. Fares for travel showed a hefty rise of over 12% since the end of March.
Excluding housing costs, the annual rate of inflation shown by the RPI was also down to 2.2%, a drop of 0.3%
The Consumer Prices Index decreased to 1.0%, down from 1.6%.
The Economic Affairs Division of government says it's no longer possible to compare RPI inflation with equivalent UK figures due to the de-listing of the RPI index as a UK official national statistic in March last year.
