Inflation rises sharply in June

Cost of travel is main contributor

A big jump in the cost of travel is the main contributor to another significant increase to the Island's inflation rate.

It stood at 9.2 percent in June - up just over one percentage point on the May figure.

Six items in the transport category experienced sharp rises according to the latest figures from the Cabinet Office.

Petrol and oil were up 39.8 per cent, followed by sea travel up 21.8 per cent and other travel costs 17.8 per cent.

Meanwhile within the Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels category the inflationary pressures were clear to see.

Within oils and other fuels the figure rose 96.8 per cent between June 2021 and 2022.

In all the transport category contributed 3.2 per cent to the overall 12 month inflation rate.
