Inmate who died at prison is named

Craig Jack Anderson

Craig Jack Anderson was found dead last Friday

Police have confirmed the identity of the man who died at the Isle of Man Prison last week.

He was Craig Jack Anderson.

The 28-year-old was found dead at the Jurby facility on Friday, 25 November.

Officers are investigating his death on behalf of the Coroner of Inquests and say no further comment will be made at this time.

Mr Anderson had been sentenced to five years in prison a day earlier (Thursday, 24 November) after admitting wounding with intent during a drunken assault in July.

During an unconnected court appearance on Tuesday (30 November) Mr Anderson’s advocate described his death as a ‘very significant incident’.

Two days later, in another unconnected court appearance, the advocate told the court he wanted specific conditions to be met for another client who was being remanded – including scanning and mental health provision - in light of the ‘incident’ at the prison.

In a statement issued to Manx Radio last week the Department of Home Affairs said its thoughts were with the individual’s family and friends at this difficult time.

Further request for comment went unanswered.
