Investigation launched into 'unacceptable' police Facebook post

RPU described 999 call as 'daft' and 'unnecessary drama'

A social media post by the Isle of Man Constabulary's Roads Policing Unit which has been described by the Manx force as 'unacceptable' has been referred to the police's professional standards department.

The Isle of Man Constabulary today says last night's post by the RPU does not represent the views of the constabulary, and is apologising to those involved.

The now-deleted Facebook post from the RPU described a 999 call from two teenagers concerned while driving in last night's storm conditions as 'daft', adding 'we have plenty to do in weather like this without this unnecessary drama'.

After deleting the post, the police have now issued an apology, and say they will be making direct contact with those involved.

The statement goes on to say any member of the public who feels they are in danger or needs help should be encouraged to ask for help.

It adds the constabulary has worked hard to build confidence in the public, particularly with young people around road safety, and hopes this post has not undone that work.

During the storms overnight, a media post was issued from the Isle of Man Roads Policing Unit Media page on Facebook....
