EU issues update on rights and status
The chief minister says 'the Island has a voice and is [being] heard', as Brexit negotiations continue.
The Manx government has given its approval to the European Commission's draft Withdrawal Agreement, published this week.
The document clearly states that Europe considers the Isle of Man and Channel Islands to be, for all intents and purposes, a part of Britain after it leaves.
This means residents, and EU nationals living here, will be given the same rights and status as anyone in the United Kingdom after 2019.
It also means the Isle of Man will remain an affiliate part of the customs union, at least for the medium term.
While Howard Quayle says he still needs to 'review the full text of the documents', he adds the fact the Island has received an explicit mention from Brussels can provide 'reassurance' for businesses.
