Bettison to raise matter in Tynwald
An MHK is calling for Tynwald to show solidarity with the Island's LGBT community and condemn the 'oppressive' laws in Brunei.
Claire Bettison has branded the move by the Sultan of the South East Asian country as 'backward', as it phases in a new Sharia penal code.
Since 2013, the country has took steps to change legislation which could see acts of homosexuality punishable by death.
It has sparked outrage from the UN, world leaders and human rights groups alike.
Miss Bettison will put her motion to Tynwald next week.
The member for Douglas East says the Isle of Man government should play its part:
Vote on Castle Rushen High School funding 'very unlikely' before election
Ramsey Commissioners to host public meeting about cottage hospital
DfE provided more than £250,000 to MT to assist with below ground fibre installations
Man given suspended sentence after importing 2kg of cannabis to Island
