Island could see boost in civil partnership tourism

Unions legal in IoM but not recognised in UK

The Isle of Man could see more heterosexual couples coming here to take advantage of its civil partnership laws.

The view of one half of a pioneering pair who made a flying visit here from London yesterday.

Claire Beale and Martin Loat have been together for 25 years, and wanted a way to have their union recognised, particularly in legal terms, without having to get married.

Their civil partnership won't be recognised in the UK for now, but Martin doesn't think that will deter others from following suit.
