Island dentistry situation 'unacceptable' says MHK

Claims that some can't access basic treatment

An MHK says there are serious problems with the way NHS dentistry services are funded and spread across the Island.

Ramsey member Lawrie Hooper is concerned that some members of the public can't access basic treatment, and wants health chiefs to make solving the issue a top priority.

Only 40 per cent of the Manx population are registered with NHS dental practices. Government claims there are no more funded vacancies.

Industry representatives, met with the Department of Health and Social Care last week to discuss the issue.

Mr Hooper says some areas are being under-served by the current system.
