Island must help to alleviate climate change

The Isle of Man has to react to the latest Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change report which states that man-made greenhouse gas emissions are extremely likely to be the dominant cause of the planet warming.

Environment Minister Phil Gawne says not to play our part would be grossly irresponsible.

Last May, Tynwald unanimously agreed a target of reducing the Island's greenhouse gas emissions by 80% by 2050 based on 1990 levels.

This policy puts us on the same footing as neighbouring countries.

Mr Gawne says there have been recent moves, such as the major rebuilding of public sector housing, which show the way forward.

But much more work needs to be done:-
