Island needs bishop who is 'visible' in Manx community

Public meetings being held as part of process to appoint Bishop Eagles' successor 

The Isle of Man needs to have a bishop who is a ‘visible’ part of the Manx community.

That’s the view of the archdeacon who is urging people to have their say on who it should be.

The Diocese of Sodor and Man is holding two public meetings today (24 July) as part of the process to recruit a successor to Bishop Peter Eagles.

He’s retiring in the autumn.

The meetings will take place at Kirk Michael Church between 3.15pm and 4.15pm and at the Abbey Church Hall in Ballasalla between 6pm and 7pm.

The UK Prime Minister’s Office and the Archbishop of Canterbury will also have input on the appointment process.

The archbishop’s appointment secretary Stephen Knott will be at the meetings.
