Island step closer to having boundary changes

The Isle of Man is a step closer to having major constituency boundary changes in time for the 2016 election.

Members of the House of Keys took around three hours to consider the clauses stage of the Representation of the People (Amendment) Bill yesterday. [tues]

If it passes through Keys and Legislative Council, it would mean there will be 12 two seat constituencies, instead of the one, two and three seats there are currently.

A number of amendments were tabled to the bill from Rushen MHKs Juan Watterson and Phil Gawne and Onchan MHK Peter Karran.

All but one were unsuccessful, and the members were accused on several occasions of trying to sabotage the bill.

However, despite only getting one amendment through, Mr Gawne considered it a successful process:
