Island to remember Winter Hill

Service starts at 10.30am in St John's

The Island remember those who lost their lives in the Winter Hill disaster tomorrow (Mon).

It’s 59 years today since the ill-fated flight departed Ronaldsway, carrying a party of local motor traders on a day trip to the Exide battery factory in Manchester.

Only seven of the 35 on board survived when the aircraft crashed in bad weather after less than an hour later near Horwich in Lancashire.

The service takes place at the site in St John's at 10.30am, where a memorial plaque is laid.

An open invitation is extended to members of the public who wish to attend. After the service, refreshments will be served at Green’s Cafe in St John’s.
