Island unemployment falls further

Jobless total lowest since June '04

Unemployment in the Isle of Man is at its lowest since June 2004, according to the latest official figures released today (13 Oct).

The rate fell in September to 0.8% of the economically active population, down by 0.1% on the previous month.

The jobless total currently stands at 338, a net decrease from August to September, of 55.

Unemployment in the Island was last below the current level more than 13 years ago, when in June 2004, 315 people were out of work.

In September, 877 vacancies were notified to the Job Centre, with 598 remaining at the end of the month.

The International Labour Organisation, based on a different formula, estimates 783 individuals in the  Island are seeking work, which equates to an unemployment rate of 1.8%.
