Island will have ageing population to '2036 and beyond'

Cabinet Office review published

The Isle of Man will 'continue to have an ageing population through to 2036 and beyond'.

A report published by the Cabinet Office shows the working age bracket fell between 2011 and 2016, while the numbers of those of pension age rose.

The population review highlights how spending on health services is likely to continue to increase as more people live longer.

The impact of managing the retired section of the population is said to present of financial challenges, such as state pension payments.

As the population grows older, helping those of pension age work longer and learn new skills will need addressing, according to the review.

It also recommends need for an extra 200 bed spaces in nursing homes, more help for carers, and support to allow people to remain in their homes for longer.
