Island will have 'big problem' if Wright's Pit North forced to close

MHK calls for extended use decision to be annulled

The infrastructure minister believes his department is not responsible for an inspector being mis-led about Wright's Pit North.

The future of the landfill site near Bride has been thrown back into question in recent weeks after the Council of Ministers approved the continued use of the site until 2030.

But the independent inspector's report suggested, incorrectly, that a planning application for a replacement site had been submitted.

Minister, Tim Crookall, says his team isn't to be blamed for the confusion:

Meanwhile, Garff MHK Daphne Caine has put forward a motion for December's Tynwald sitting, to see the approval from the Council of Ministers for the extended use annulled:

In Tynwald tomorrow (21 November) Mrs Caine will ask the infrastructure minister: "What progress has been made with establishing appropriate disposal routes for construction and demolition waste; and if he will make a statement following the Council of Ministers’ approval of planning application 21/01000/B Wright’s Pit North, Cranstal Road, Bride."
