Island's infrastructure 'very interesting' for China

Economics expert gives seminar on growth slow-down

China could learn from the Isle of Man economy, according to a global expert.

Jinny Yan is Managing Director and Chief China Economist at ICBC Standard Bank:

Ms Yan delivered a seminar on ongoing changes to the Chinese economy, and global trade opportunities, at Standard Bank in Douglas today.

That event took place from midday at the organisation's offices on Circular Road.

Now considered the world's second largest economy, China is experiencing a well-documented slow-down in economic growth, following rapid expansion either side of the turn of the 21st Century.

The Asian powerhouse is undergoing a re-specialisation of its economy, from a society driven by the export of manufactured goods, towards increased reliance on tertiary and services industries.

But how might those changes affect the Isle of Man?

That's one of the questions that was raised at a today's seminar.
